Hi Chris,
I have read the fish oil posts (which were very helpful - thank you!) and just want to clarify.
I am doubling up on fish oil since I have 40+ lbs to lose. As you note, that means 4800 mg of EPA + DHA per day total (which is so helpful, thank you again for this).
I purchased GNC Triple Strength Fish Oil softgels. One softgel has:
647 mg EPA
253 mg DHA
This totals 900 mg per pill. I can take 5 pills for 4500 mg (a little under 4800 mg) or 6 pills for 5400 mg (over 4800) per day. Any suggestions? Also, as I understand from the book, I should take them with meals that contain olive oil for maximum absorption.
Also, I wanted to check if it was ok to have "cage free" eggs (3 eggs per serving) instead of "free range." I have mostly cage free in my area.
The carton reads:
"Cage free hens, fed pure grains without the use of antibiotics, natural feed free of pesticides and herbicides."
Lastly, I contacted you with a bad headache yesterday and I am doing much better! Still a little bit of a light headache, but nothing like yesterday. Also, it's morning of day 5 for me and I am down 3 lbs! I felt lighter and couldn't resist weighing myself (though I am not an everyday weigher)!
One last thing, the person at GNC felt very confirmed that many of his recommendations for good supplements were recommended by you!
Thanks again!

Hi Michelle!
If you wanted to be really precise, you could always have five pills one day alternating with six pills the next. The EFAs in fish oil are compounds which reach a "threshhold concentration" in your tissues and it takes a long time before the amounts begin to diminish. You could theoretically take 11 or twelve pills every other day and your body wouldn't miss a beat. (But who would want to?)
As for eggs-- cage free is fine!
Have a terrific day,
Chris |
